Some Rambling Thoughts

Today, i had a rather eventful day... initially wanted to stay in, to take some photos, put up in the blog... but the lazy worm got the better out of me... : )

Anyway, i was in one of my aunty 'clothing' went to town to watch "Ten promises made to my dog" with a old pal. In the middle of the show, you can hear sniffing, crying etc... Ok, i wont say that am not touched or anything (did shed couple tears), probably, it reminded me of my relationship of the a mongrel dog that i had that passed away last week.... Yup, you bet! I was sad.. i start to have doubt... did i treat her well, nice, caring enough? Did i fulfil the commandments as a dog owner should? Anyway, she had lived to a ripeful old age... and had moved on peacefully..... sigh..

After that, visited some shop in raffles city to do a product survey... didnt know that IKEA textile is rather popular lolx hahaha.. Oh well, i shall have competitor lolx hahaha... (shall not dwell too much on it)...

Oh visited my grandma in hospital who is undergoing theraphy for mild stroke... mind you she is like in her early 90s and still going on strong... vital organs are still functioning well.. ( i wonder, will get to live that long? or will i live that long?) Time to search for "old folks" home... it will sure come in handy...

By the way, met a cousin whom technically we never get to know one another existence till recently... weird and yet comforting feeling... My dad's family members arent small - the cousins alone can easily form a football team with extra players.. but sad to say, we hardly meet or let alone know one another... does it happen to all family? or only ours? Still, Ken, it was great talking to you... if am going to another flea thinggy, will keep you posted!

Tmr another long day... sigh!

Part 2 : Care Instruction

Facts About Ours Bag
(Parts 2)

Though we are only a bag, we still needs lots of Tender Loving Care.... in order to prolong our lives... So how to take good care of us?

In the midst of washing, to prevent colour runs, it will be good to add in a tea spoon of white vinegar especially the 'virgin' wash.... and not forgetting to separate us from light colour materials. You won't want your clothes or other stuff to be 'stained' by us :) Suggestion : Add in softener in your future wash to make the material softer and at the same time, it gives out a nice smell too :P (Note : for some of mine earlier batch, i have done a pre wash to test if the colour runs etc... safe to say nope, they dont). Still it is good to take precautions.

As we all know Cotton gets crumpled easily.... lines will start showing especially after few folds... how? Answer is : Iron! (Ok, i can hear some grrr sound... dont we hate ironing lolx)... But because of the way the bag is being sewed, the base etc... most of the iron board is too wide, You cant reach certain corners/areas... what to do?

Ironing Instructions

Additional tools you need : Thick Towel that is being rolled.

Step 1 : Iron the front and back the manner you would iron your blouse, skirt etc

Step 2: To iron the sides, insert the thick towel and press lightly (see pictures)

Step 3 : Switch it to the base of the bags (See Pictures)

After all has been done, Bingo! You got yourself a new bag again! Don't you think simple as ABC?

If any of you have tried any methods and work fine, do share with us. It would be nice to hear from you all :)

Thoughts about 12072008

Like in one of my post, i was saying that i my sub biz did much better than my original biz... in total i read about close to 6 or 8 readings... for a new-comer it wasn't that bad (at least i covered my rent for that day lolx).

Each reading on its own was unique....... though you can easily classify them into the common categories romance, career etc.... their background, concerns to deal with etc were different.. guess this is like writing a novel, same type of content but the plot/main ppl are different. The approach is also different, probing, advising etc .... guess this is why i like tarot reading so much.... !

Card reading or whatever form of fortune reading isn't about being accurate or to foretell the future/outcome in my opinion... rather it is about how to draw the issues out, understand yourself and learn to deal with it... Like what i say in my earlier post - outcome is never cast on stones... the choice still belongs to the querent! (As requested by the camera shy Mei-An, photo has been removed)

Singapore Island Resort - 12 July 2008

Yesterday, on the 12th of July, we participated in a Flea event held in Singapore Island Resort orgainsed by Fashion Fanatics...

This time round, it was pretty much of a solo job... luckily, my aunt and my cousin came and picked me up, we were one of the few that were rather early to set up the stall lolx hahaha... This was how the stall look like...

Due to table space constraint, i did not bring much bag to sell..., looked kinda messy ya... sigh, i think my 'sales manager' will be very disappointed with me hahaha!

This is my friend Shirley, who came and keep me company for the early few hours.... In my next post, will let you all know how i met her... it was really interesting... and i think fate at a hand in it...:P

In the afternoon, another colleague of mine came to help out... Veronica is her name... she came in her blading gear...... a very interesting lady too.

This time i did quite a handful of readings.. some from owners of other stall, some was walk-in customers... It was a enriching experience ... will talk about it in my tarot post... But i thought i wanted to share this...

This lady - Shabana who provides Henna servicest... whose stall is opposite mine... we did our first "butter" trade... in exchange for a reading.. I would say her skill is very skillful. For those interested, you may want to contact her.

Meanwhile, take a look at the design she drew for me... dont they look intriguing and interesting.....

Very sad, i didnt manage to sell much bags... Look for it under the sold bag session :( I kept on telling my friends.. that instead of my main bix thriving, it was my sub-bix (tarot reading svc) that had repeating bix lolx hahaha! Oh i sold some some button earrings :)

This participation gave me a exciting, refreshing experience.. how should i put it... hmm, met a very interesting entrepreneur - actually she was my neighbour, who was selling imported earrings from Turkey.... Before she left the event, she actually entrusted her stuff to me to sell for her.....and even passed me her "gadgets" so that i can display her earrings... (Thanks Leona, i was bewildered but at the sametime, glad there are warmth, trusting people around) So folks, look out for it coming your way ya!

Oh ya, before i forgot, i had a customer whom i met in SMU, actually, came by to pay us a visit! She is a darling... And her friend was a entertainer ... he actually became my part time promoter lolx haha! Thank you to you too!

Overall, i think i had a enjoyable session despite that sales wasnt that fantastic!

Facts about our bags - Part 1

Facts about our Bags
(Part 1)

Why did i choose this version of Fabric from IKEA? Is it because of their design, price, quality etc.. Well, it is mainly for their quality. You see, they are 100% cotton and they are pretty thick.. suitable to make shopping bags for daily usage, to carry stuff etc.. Are you all aware, they are sold as fabric for curtains, sofas, soft furnishings?

Ok, i have to admit the designs on the material may not appeal to many (especially the young & trendy) but again, if you will to tie scarf or a brooch - will definetly make a diff! Look out for our complementing products coming your way soon~

As you all know, all my fabrics are handpicked and their sizes vary... at times we have to fully utilise the fabric (so as not waste) ... so we use those black nylon straps - they are made of good quality (thick). My mum bought them from the textile centre ies along Arab street...

Now what about the design, we only have 1 standard design at the moment.. Either she comes with a pocket infront/inside or no pocket at all.... However, she will comes in 3 sizes.. The "Papa" - Big, "Mama" - Small & lastly the "Baby" - Smallest.

Comes with a pocket inside

or

(Pocket is outside)

The other design which we have is what i call the "free range".... why is it called that? You see, at times whenever my "production manager" (oh did i mention i got 2 production manager?) got tired of making the same standard design bags, they like to experience... They are what i called my "Virgin" Bag lolx hahaha~ Egs...

(Both bags are double layer. Sorry to say - both are sold!)

Ok folks, thats for the part 1. Look out for the continuation of part 2... i will talk about the sewing, usage, take care instruction... till then :)

How "Ooh My" was born....

Lets walk down the memory lane......

Long long time ago, in the southern part of singapore, there live a lady who got too much "time" in her hands to idle and to daydream (how we wished dont we?) :P The thruth was, she was getting bored in her day job, so she begain a journey looking for ideas and inspiration.... how to make her life interesting, exciting and memorable!

I would say when IKEA and the rest of the big retail company stood up and say - "No more free plastic bag" would be given out or something like "Wednesday no free plastic bag", she hit onto the idea of creating a durable, fashionable and flat-pack grocery bag... and so she began her journey in looking for right material at a low cost ... (no point if material cost is too high isnt it?) Material from IKEA seems to be right choice... they were made of 100% cotton, easy to maintain and importantly durable (esp. since they are use for curtains, sofas, soft furnishings etc).

Next, who can sew for her? Hmm, during that period, her relationship with her mum wasnt going smoothly... probably because of this mini project, it sort of bridge the relationship.. they would sit down discuss about the design, how to cut the textile etc.... (oh she was the product critic hahaha).. By the way, the lady was proud to announce to everyone that - she is no branded lady but she is loyal to her mama brand bag :P

She use this for her day to day work bag .. oh did you notice the pocket, she decorate it with a 'brooch' pin which she bought recently at a flea market...

This is the smaller version which is used for her weekend shopping... dont look down at her size, she can hold alot of stuff....

Her first few pieces were welcomed by her colleagues & friends (poor thing -they become her 1st victim lolx) ..... Gradually, production started to grow and one way to introduce and test the market was to participate in a "flea" market event! I would say, despite that she didnt have much confidence, i would still say the event was a success!

Where does she want to go from here? Well, her vision is very simple - to maintain cost so that it will be affordable for many people! And sometimes down the road, she can grow her "product" range and to sell internationally!
